jasper's childhood in oklahoma was marked by a sense of alienation. his unconventional interests and rebellious nature set him apart from his peers, earning him a reputation as an outsider. raised in a deeply religious household, jasper struggled with the conflicting messages of acceptance and condemnation preached by his family and community.the trauma of religious indoctrination left a lasting imprint on jasper's psyche, fueling his rebellious spirit and driving him to seek solace in the shadows. his tattoos became a form of self-expression, a defiance against the rigid expectations imposed upon him. but despite his outward defiance, jasper couldn't escape the suffocating grip of guilt and shame instilled by years of religious dogma.as he navigated the complexities of adolescence, jasper sought refuge in the shadows, both literal and metaphorical. his fascination with the unknown led him to explore the hidden corners of his small town, where he discovered a world beyond the confines of his upbringing. It was during these solitary journeys that jasper's latent supernatural abilities began to emerge, a gift and a curse that would shape the course of his life in ways he could never have imagined.

tragedy struck one fateful day when jasper was just 15 years old. While exploring an abandoned structure on the outskirts of town together with his siblings, disaster struck and changed his life forever. the decrepit building, weakened by years of neglect, collapsed under their weight, trapping jasper and his siblings beneath a mountain of rubble. in the darkness of the crumbling ruins, jasper's latent powers of shadow control manifested for the first time to protect his loved ones. with a primal instinct born of fear and desperation, he summoned the shadows to shield them from the falling debris, creating a barrier of darkness that enveloped him like a protective cocoon.as the dust settled and rescue crews worked tirelessly to free them from the wreckage, jasper emerged from the rubble, battered and bruised, but alive. however, his siblings were not so fortunate. they had succumbed to their injuries, leaving jasper devastated and guilt-ridden. haunted by the memory of that fateful day, jasper was consumed by guilt and self-doubt. he blamed himself for the tragedy, convinced that his powers had failed to save those he held most dear. eventually jasper made the decision to flee his hometown, seeking solace in the anonymity of the sprawling metropolis of los angeles.for years, jasper wandered the neon-lit streets of la. homeless and haunted by the ghosts of his past, he struggled to find his place in a world that seemed indifferent to his pain. but fate intervened when he crossed paths with his current roommate, a stranger whose kindness offered a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.with their support, jasper began to rebuild his shattered life, finding work as a bartender at a local speakeasy. the dimly lit establishment became a sanctuary for jasper, a place where he could escape the demons of his past and forge connections with fellow lost souls. yet, despite the sense of camaraderie he found among the misfits and outcasts who frequented the speakeasy, jasper remained haunted by his past.

CANON - MODERN WORLD
the world is a fucked up place and jasper knows it. after years of religious indoctrination and torture, he finally leaves at the age of 16 the smalltown he grew up in after the tragic death of his two siblings. the only two people close to him. after years of homelessness in la, he eventually found solace in his roommate. who not only helped him get on his feet and find a job as a bartender, but also showed him, that not all humans are as bad as he thought. however that doesn't change the fact that jasper is a man full of anger. anger at himself, anger at the people who hurt him, anger at the shadows who failed to help his siblings and anger at the world. but controlling his emotions is one of the things he desperately has to learn in order to finally get actual control of abilities.ALTERNATIVE - FANTASY
in a world full of faes, elves, magicians, warlocks and other fantastic beings, jasper grows up in a small cult that devoted their life to a cruel god. the young man realized early that his own views didn't align with the ones of the people around him. years of abuse and torture followed until he eventually managed to escape with the help of a shadow entity with which he had built a pact without his knowledge. years later the now young man works in a tavern for travellers. the shadow entity still follows him around trying to lure him completly on its side.
